The first photo session for the 2022 Pet Calendar is in the bag!
A few days ago I met up with Alex, her hubby, Winnie & Linus for the very first photo session for the 2022 Pet Calendar Project! It was early in the morning to beat the heat and get some beautiful light bouncing around the dogs. The almost fairy tale location was one I selected specifically for these dogs who are the smallest in the group of winning participants. :) Keep reading to find out why.
You'll want to revisit this page over the next few months to see preview photos of the other 2022 Pet Calendar Project photo sessions - only 12 more to go!
Meet Winnie & Linus
My first thought upon meeting Winnie & Linus was, "How cute are those two faces? " My second was, "This is going to be fun!"
Winnie was the more gregarious of the two and I even got kisses from her, something Alex, her mom, said was a bit unusual for Winnie so I felt honored. :) Linus was a bit more reserved but he was a sport about the whole thing, as was Winnie. Alex does dog agility with them so they were happy to try to figure out what we were asking and as you can see they made wonderful models.
A Field of Flowers
What could be more perfect than these two adorable dogs in a field of flowers?! I chose this location specifically for them as I thought it would complement their ... ahem, smaller stature. If I put two small dogs in front of a large building (or large anything) and put the building in the frame Winnie and Linus would hardly be visible! If I filled the frame with them then you wouldn't see the building! I do the same custom locations for all my dog photography sessions. The majority of my equine photo sessions are done at the barn.
There was a lot for Winnie and Linus to see, smell and investigate (it's what dogs do!) but using a combination of techniques, strategies and sometimes sheer luck we were able to get them to stay still a few milliseconds at a time - all I need to capture beautiful images.
Alex was standing next to them holding their leashes and providing moral support. :) You don't see her or the leashes in the final edited photos as we wanted Winnie & Linus to be the star of the show - as they should be!
We wrapped things up just as the heat was starting to affect the dogs, owners and photographer :) and the glowy-light of early morning was dissipating.
It was a perfect start to the 2022 Pet Calendar Project.
What's next for the 2022 Pet Calendar Project?
Two gorgeous dogs are on deck - Scottie and Crosby. Check back and see some preview images of their session!
