Muted, Moody & Magical
There's so much to love about winter photo sessions, they truly have a look and feel all their own. Landscapes are both starkly beautiful and dreamy at the same time, filled with amazing textures. Colors are muted, moody and magical. Snow is just an added bonus but oh, what a bonus it is. See photo #2.
The light is no less beautiful and some of my favorite skies show up in winter. Just look at the gallery at the bottom of the page for some examples of light and skies that range from wintery gray to peachy pink and golden.
Your dog would love it if you moved to Alaska
So many dogs adore winter. In fact, the colder it gets the happier they are. Their humans may not share their enthusiasm but that's what down coats, wool socks and hot chocolate are for!
Dogs who relish the cold are a joy to photograph in winter. Their personalities really come alive and that's what it's all about! The same dog come summer may not be as animated or be as inclined to show their inner goofy, playful selves. But as the temperatures drop you can almost see them turn into a puppy again.
You can even pull on your coziest sweater, a favorite hat and pair of mittens and join in for as many frames as you want. Your dog will LOVE that you're a part of the fun.
Bugs Begone
No ticks!
This is no small bonus point! The unfortunate truth of living in Pennsylvania and enjoying the outdoors is that ticks are never far away in the warmer months. And ticks become much more challenging to find when your dog has a thick, heavy coat. Ugh, just UGH. This worry all but goes away when the temperatures drop below freezing!
Oh, and add no mosquitos, flies or pesky insects to the list of reasons to embrace winter.
Do you have one of these hardy breeds?
Think: Labradors, Huskies, Corgies, Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Chow Chows, Akitas, Samoyeds, and farm, livestock, hunting & sporting dogs
They may thank you to the stars and back for considering a photo session before spring gets here.
By the way, this is what my dogs do all winter.
What about horses?
There's nothing cuter than a fuzzy pony, or more handsome than a horse who's clipped (full, trace, hunt etc.) for winter work.
Horse owners know it's certainly more challenging to keep a horse clean in the winter unless their horse is fully clipped and/or wears a blanket when turned out. So winter sessions are always on the table especially if it's the aforementioned fuzzy pony or foxhunters and horses who stay in full work.
Your equine best friend will LOVE that there are no flies or bombers to worry about!
Suit up and let's have some fun!
Pull on the layers, load up your cold-loving furry companion in the car and I'll meet you at one of my favorite locations for gorgeous, moody winter portraits.
I'll bring the hot chocolate...you bring the mug.
Just tell me if you want whipped cream, marshmallows or both.
(It's always both, right?)
