The 2022 Pet Calendar Project - Seventh Session
Please meet our cover model, Kisses!
Yes, this lovely lady won the coveted top spot and will grace the cover of the 2022 Pet Calendar!
No, this is not the cover photo. It is not even the final location for the cover! More on that in a second.
The Best Laid Plans... Kisses, Joanna & Daryl
I had scouted this location - Chickies Rock County Park - a few weeks before the session and thought it would be great. But the day of the session didn't quite go to plan.
For starters, the lighting wasn't ideal. When you shoot outdoors Mother Nature is always in charge of the lighting.
Secondly, there were a lot of people there. They were there to enjoy the sunset, just as we were. I thought we might catch a break given it was a weekday but it was not to be. The outlook is a fairly small space so as more people kept arriving we saw the writing on the wall and hiked back out.
All was not lost however, as we had a nice little hike on a beautiful summer evening and we captured this beautiful image of Kisses with the setting sun by her paw and the Susquehanna River far below.
Photos below - me trying to get a kiss from Kisses. And Kisses asking for another treat. She is the dearest, sweetest dog - such a beautiful soul! She's the kind of dog where you sit with her for a minute and immediately feel better - about everything.
Plan B
When I got home and reviewed the images I knew we needed a re-shoot. As much as I love the photo of Kisses in the setting sun at Chickies Rock County Park I wanted to see her cute face and expression (and maybe that famous pittie smile) on the cover. So I reached out to Joanna who was game for a re-do. Again, I'm so grateful for super owners who are willing to roll with the little hiccups that sometimes happen along the way.
Kisses lives with her parents in Ephrata, and as I didn't want them to have to travel far for a second session I started looking for a promising location in the Ephrata area. The first one that popped into my head was the Ephrata Cloisters. I reached out to them about our fundraising calendar and happily they gave us permission!
The second session took maybe 10 minutes - Kisses rocked it! She looked adorable, happy and yes - there were pittie smiles!
We are in the final stretches of the 2022 Pet Calendar sessions - I hope you are sharing the blog posts and telling all your friends all about the calendar! When it goes on sale next month we will be able to raise more funds and awareness for Pitties.Love.Peace and help more dogs like Kisses find the loving homes they so richly deserve.
Cliffhangers - I've not included the photo that is likely to be featured in the calendar so you'll have to wait until the calendar comes out in the fall to see it! Such is the case with the other calendar participants I've blogged about. Anticipation is fun, isn't it? :)
What's next for the 2022 Pet Calendar Project?
The dog with another great name is on deck - 'Taco'! Check back and see some preview images of his session!
The 2022 Pet Calendar will be available for purchase in September and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Pitties.Love.Peace.
