The 2022 Pet Calendar Project - Eighth Session
Taco & Rachel
Let me start by saying Taco is a beautiful dog. He is also very well trained. Very. He looks at his mom, Rachel like the sun rises and sets in her, and for him I'm sure it does. It's beautiful to see. And she adopted him from Pitties.Love.Peace! He joins other PLP alumni calendar models: Hayley, Brie, Bambi, Scottie and Crosby.
Location Location Location
Taco will be our model for the month October and for me October means Halloween. I started thinking about what iconic spot in Lancaster might have a fun, creepy vibe to it. Immediately my brain said, why FIELD OF SCREAMS, of course! What a dream location that would be - so many spooky sets, props and mood. It would be perfect.
In short, the owners of Field of Screams were lovely about allowing a special session there and before I knew it we were meeting Tanner, a member of the family and host and guide extraordinaire. That's him with the fake hatchets. :)
A Creative Wonderland
Tanner walked us around and I waited for the perfect location to make itself known. Creatively speaking there were incredible shooting opportunities in literally every corner, it was completely inspiring and wonderful. It was only a matter of finding a spot that was scaled to Taco's size, he could have easily gotten lost in some of their huge backdrops and buildings.
In far too short a time (I would have been happy to wander for hours) we turned a corner and bang, there it was! The perfect spot. All three of us agreed that we had hit the jackpot. You can get a sense of it in the photos below - I will save the wider shot for the calendar image. Trust me, it's awesome.
Trying Lots of Things
Working with pets is largely a matter of finding out what works for each individual. What one dog (or horse) finds interesting another dog will find boring or even scary. That's why I spend time getting to know each dog before I even pick up my camera.
Taco was a delight to work with because he thought everything was fun and interesting! So for me it was a matter of finding the right body language and facial expression that would complement this incredible location. In other words, I didn't want him just sitting there - as adorable as he would be.
One thing I tried that had us laughing was to attempt a shot with his mouth open - as if he were screaming- get it?! So we alternated tossing him his toy and his treats (that were a bit too crumbly). You can see the blooper shots - one looks like he has the toy for a nose and in the other you can see the spray of treats. Whoops!
We asked him to sit, down, walk at the camera, run at the camera, etc. You name it, he did it. We wrapped things up after we had tried all the things and I knew I had a great variety of images sitting on my memory card. I can't wait for everyone to see the final shot.
Thank you again to Field of Screams for allowing this very special shoot to happen.

We are in the final stretches of the 2022 Pet Calendar sessions - I hope you are sharing the blog posts and telling all your friends all about the calendar! When it goes on sale this month we will be able to raise funds and awareness for Pitties.Love.Peace and help more dogs find the loving homes they so richly deserve.
Cliffhangers - I've not included the photo that is likely to be featured in the calendar so you'll have to wait until the calendar comes out in the September to see it! Such is the case with the other calendar participants I've blogged about. Anticipation is fun, isn't it? :)
What's next for the 2022 Pet Calendar Project?
Two dogs with absolutely outstanding names are on deck - Fabio Casanova and Victoria Anne! Check back and see some preview images of their session!
The 2022 Pet Calendar will be available for purchase in September and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Pitties.Love.Peace.
